While Walt dabbled with the idea in the 30's, it took nearly sixty years for it to actually happen. It was really the last of the great fairy tales that Disney didn't turn into a movie. Beauty and the Beast is pretty much critic proof, while still being a great movie. Sure, I love the classics such as Bambi, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty, but the two modern films are ones that I can watch over and over and still love every frame of animation on screen.

The Movie Along with The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast is my favorite of the Disney animated films. Note: All of the movie screen captures in this review may be clicked on to view an 853x480 version. And it's a shame, as this could've been one of the best DVDs that Disney has released. While the audio and extras are excellent, the DVD suffers in the video department due to how much stuff they crammed on the first disc. Now, the film has arrived on a two-disc Platinum DVD release, but the results could've been much better. The film also won the Golden Globe for Best Picture (Comedy or Musical), and has since become what is considered to be the best of the modern Disney films and one of their three best of all time.ДЇor the film's 10th Anniversary in 2001, Disney re-released it on IMAX and other large format theaters with a digitally remastered print and soundtrack, in addition to a restored musical number 'Human Again'. The only animated movie to ever be nominated for Best Picture was Disney's 1991 classic Beauty and the Beast.
